Dialogue: Racism
The Center for the Healing of Racism in Houston, TX has granted the Metropolitan Tulsa Urban League permission to facilitate their hallmark program, Dialogue: Racism. Dialogue: Racism was developed to promote the sharing of thoughts, feelings, experiences, and perspectives among a diverse group of people. Facilitators from different heritages create a safe, respectful environment where participants can explore the issues of racism and its repercussions. Information is provided by the facilitators on such topics as defining prejudice and racism, where racism originates, how racism is perpetuated, the forms of racism, and positive means for overcoming racism and healing its wounds. Participants are then encouraged to dialogue within guidelines that promote real listening and understanding.

Dialogue: Racism functions with the ultimate goal of healing from the history of racial injustice. It operates with the understanding that although Institutional Racism is at the core of racial injustice and prevents access to opportunity, it is individuals who function in these institutions and perpetuate racism in its many forms. Dialogue: Racism seeks to create an environment in which men and women of all races can address each other in a spirit of open and honest discussion, free of blame and victimization. The principle of trusting consultation, grounded in the belief that truth lies not in the individual perspective, but in the oneness of humanity.
